Earth Dams The design of earth dams vary vastly according to the application necessitating their construction and the characteristics of the terrain. Esthetically pleasing earth dams and water features as part of the development of ecologically friendly developments serve the dual purpose of encouraging a rich bird life and the creation of small irrigation infrastructure.Earth dams form an integral part of game parks and nature conservation areas. Careful observation and surveying ensures the enhancement of the natural features.
Agricultural irrigation systems need to withstand the test of time. Sound design and construction practice will ensure that the benefits of the water network are enjoyed by future generations.
For both economical as well as ecological reasons, materials naturally available on site are utilized as far as possible for the construction of earth dams. Experienced supervision and innovative design is required to prevent erosion during heavy rainfalls and prevent unnecessary water loss during drier periods.
Material experts need to analyze the soil layers during the early phases of earthmoving to ensure that the finished dam bed is watertight. Costly repairs can be prevented with adequate attention to slope angles and slipways. Although the construction of dams in not a primary function for Marracon, it forms part of the scope of works for some contracts and tenders we have completed or are currently executing.
We are proud of the many earth dams we have built in the Western Cape over the past twenty years and even more so due to the fact that no client has reported any erosion or structural fault to date. |
